Sailing in the mountains - watch the prestigious Tour Voile, Sailing Tour de France on an inland mountain lake for the first time in history and discover the mountains at the same time.

The Tour Voile, the sailing world's answer to the Tour de France traditionally races around the coast of France but for 2021, one of the acts will take place on the Serre Poncon lake, a 22km long inland lake surrounded by dramatic Alpine summits. This will be the first time ever the tour has diverged from the coast line!
The boats used for the race are trimaran DIAM 240Ds, a fun high speed sailing experience, perfect for racing in a variety of conditions.
The final details of dates and the rest of the tour will be announced this Autumn, but the rumours are true, there will be an act on the lake and it is likely to be the second to last one before the finish in Marseille. The tour takes place in July each year so as soon as we have the dates of the Serre Poncon act, we will publicise them so you can book your trip around these dates.
The Serre Poncon lake has a long history of sailing as well as windsurfing, kite surfing and other water sports and is renowned for its afternoon katabatic winds, which will add an additional challenge to the sailors. The decision by the Tour de Voile to visit this spectacular location is testament to its value and importance in the sailing world.

The area around the Serre Poncon lake is one of the few places in the world where you can climb to the top of a glacier one day and go sailing the next, making this event a great opportunity for mountain lovers and sailors to meet and share their passions!

The nearest major city is Gap which is just south of Grenoble and north of Marseille. Gap has a train station which links to the major TGVs such as Aix-en-Provence and Lyon and also has a night train directly from Paris. The nearest airports are Marseille, Grenoble or Lyon but Nice, Turin and Geneva are also drivable distance.
